Project Fair: Description

« Back to main page of Project Fair

The project fair is a virtual think-thank community of private researchers and developers.

We all think of a fair as a physical location where exhibitors present their latest achievements pointing to tomorrow's products and product technologies. Typically, one thinks of automobile, boat, fashion fairs and the like. Whilst exhibitors try to evoke interest in their products the visitors of a fair seek for inspirations, want to make sure they know what the technological state of the art is or just want to satisfy their curiosity in "what's new". If now we replace "physical place" by virtual platform, "exhibitors" by authors or co-authors and "automobile, boat, fashion" by posts on relevant topics in Risk Management, we get a pictorial sense meaning of what the project fair is about.

More in concrete, the project fair is supposed to be a promotion platform where Risk Professionals, i.e. <<authors>> in the wording of the project-fair, discus tomorrow's risk solutions or put under scrutiny in an open discourse today's

In this sense the recipients, i.e. <<visitors>> in project fair terms, may be professionals working in an economic or technical environment exposed to financial, hazard, or process risk. Alternatively, they may also be private persons such as DINKS or WOOPIES who seek concepts or ideas tailored to their very specific needs of how to optimally match their risk appetite with risk-solutions.

In essence the project fair resembles a business or scientific journal in the sense that posts typically contain a paper which -in contrast to a typical journal- may be zipped up with an executable program elucidating the subject matter discussed. However, a fundamental difference to a scientific or business journal is the fact that here the referees and the audience is the same group of people. This is crucial in the sense that authors of the project fair do not have this balancing act of matching both Journal referees' and readers' expectations at the same time which can be challenging once in a while. As another means of contrast, in this fair-type-of environment the dialogue between authors and visitors is much closer as compared to a scientific or business journal where authors usually publish towards a completely virtual and remote audience.
